Chilaw Marians crush Badureliya by 320 runs

​​Day 3 - Oshada Fernando raced to his second century of the tournament early on day three as Chilaw Marians declared their second innings on 267/3 setting Badureliya an improbable 477 to win the match outright.

Badureliya struggled against the right arm off-spin of Sachithra Serasinghe and the pace of Asitha Fernando as their top order was back in the hut in no time.

Pathum Nissanka fought hard with a half century to deny the inevitable before Malinda Pushpakumara cleaned up the tail to end with eight wickets in the match as Chilaw recorded a crushing 320 run win.

Sachithra Serasinghe capped off a brilliant all-round performance in the match with a century and half century to go along with his second innings wickets.


Chilaw Marians start season in style with win over NCC


December 9th, 2017

CMCC skipper Malinda Pushpakumara gave another wake up call to the selectors, as he picked up a match bag of 8/65 to destroy a strong NCC outfit at CMCC grounds, Katunayake today.

NCC who were set 211 for victory with 5 sessions of play remaining, struggled against spin on a tough wicket, as they were bowled out for just 116 runs to end the match inside two days and hand Chilaw Marians the first win of the tournament.

Chilaw Marians are SLC Premier League Runner-up 2016/17

The points table of the Super Eights is finally in. We are proud to announce that Chilaw Marians are RUNNER-UP of the SLC PREMIER LEAGUE TOURNAMENT 2016/17.

In the last game of the league, Chilaw Marians lost to Ragama CC by 7 wickets despite a strong comeback in the 2nd innings. Missing their star bowler, them team struggled to halt the Ragama batsman from reaching a target of 187. SSC benefitted from the Marians loss and became champions.

The team worked hard and played well throughout the tournament lasting 11 weeks. This is a great achievement for the club since the last time we were Runner-up was 5 years ago in 2011/12.

The management and the players are committed to build on this achievement and perform well in the upcoming SLC Major League Limited Overs Tournaments (50 overs and T20's).

​​Day 3 - CMCC displayed their dominance over Army SC, securing a massive innings and 197 run win, the biggest of SLC Premier League 2017/18 season. Earlier CMCC posted the highest innings score of the current Premier League season of 545.

Resuming on 16/0, allrounder Thikshila De Silva devastated Army SC's top order with a fiery spell of 5-1-19-3 to reduce the opposition to 43/3. Asitha Fernando picked up the next 2 wickets to corner Army SC at 81/5. Thanks to a partnership of 73 between Dilshan De Soysa 62 and Kasun De Silva 51, the solders managed to get past 150 without further loss before Shehan Jayasuriya was brought in to get the break-though capturing De Silva's wicket. CMCC Captain Malinda Pushpakumara did the mopping up operation. capturing 3 of the remaining wickets, to return a match bag of 9 for 125.

Best performances of the match were Asitha Fernando match bag of 5 for 51, Shehan Jayasuriya 118 off 108, Sachithra Serasinghe 65 and Isuru Udana 56. The highlight performance of the game was 25 year old Oshada Fernando's 196, being unlucky to miss out on a double century.

Chilaw Marians hold BRC to rare tie

​Chilaw Marians pulled off an amazing tie from the jaws of defeat in the high tension 3rd day's play to retain the lead in the Group B table of SLC Premier League Tournament 2017/18.

Continuing from a cautious 9/1 off 8 overs from day 2, CMCC top order batsman could not get into their usual flow and put enough runs on the board to defend a reasonable target to in the 4th innings of the game. But thanks to contributions from CMCC senior batsman Sachithra Senanayake (58) and mid order batsman Pulina Tharanga (27), the team managed to reach unimpressive 117 all out with with 45 overs of play left in the day, leaving BRC a simple target of 95 to win off 45 overs.

But the lionhearted CMCC team was not going to make it any easy for BRC to surpass that small target. Led by the ever reliable skipper Malinda Pushpakumara who opened the bowling, the Marians were on the attack to regain respect on their home turf. Again Malinda Pushpakumara took the lead in taking wickets with 5/51 and a great bowling performance by reliable allrounder Sachithra Serasinghe taking 4/31.

Fighting hard, CMCC bowled out BRC for 94 securing a rare tie in the 3-4 day game First Class cricket format in a very long time.
